Corporate Relationships
In order to remain competitive and strong, organizations must make every effort to keep pace with industry trends and best practices. Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science is among the best in the world. Well known for its superior programs in computer science and engineering, Carnegie Mellon delivers programs oriented toward producing highly qualified, forward-thinking professionals. The curriculum is carefully and deliberately designed to prepare students to excel as software engineers, project leaders with creative and innovative approaches to technical problems, and agents of change in an ever-changing industry.
Many corporations engage in collaborative partnership with Carnegie Mellon in an attempt to strengthen the caliber of their employees while aligning themselves to meet their long-term strategic goals. Such organizations recognize the value of a premier education in meeting these objectives. Demonstrating the continued value of a Carnegie Mellon degree to General Motors Corporation, for example, 95% of program graduates employed by GM were nominated and commended with value-added awards in 2002 for cost-saving contributions realized by the automotive company.
Over the past three years, the number of organizations partnering with the software engineering program has significantly increased. Partnerships span globally and are represented by such organizations as the governments of South Africa, Japan and Korea, Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, HP, Sony, Microsoft, and Ford, the Department of Defense and all of its U.S. military service branches, NASA, Vesmark and U.S. Airways.
Partnership possibilities include sponsorship of individual students for degree or certificate programs, academic or research projects, custom-tailored on or off-site programs, as well as global distance education opportunities. The success of the program graduates clearly attests to its value to corporations. Employees return to their work places with enhanced technical knowledge, well-developed skills, and a breadth of experience that has better prepared them for an ever-changing software engineering industry.
The Master of software engineering Program also maintains international affiliations with two universities, one in Korea and one in India. These universities offer our programs combining local studies (in their home country) and a final component taught in the US, in our Pittsburgh Campus.
