Facilities
The many computer-related activities on campus offer a great opportunity for software engineering students to be involved in practical work and in experimentation at the forefront of the discipline.
The
MSE
and
MSIT-SE
facilities, located in Wean Hall, are designed to integrate our students into the fabric of academic life in the School of Computer Science while allowing them to maintain the distinct identity characteristic of our professional masters students. We have created an open-plan office area, providing working space for each full-time student. An additional lab and meeting area completes the
MSE/MSIT-SE
physical space.
Opportunities exist for the student professional to interact with leading researchers in all areas of software engineering and computer science. Broadening further their learning experiences, students collaborate with other graduate and doctoral students at Carnegie Mellon. Dedicated project laboratories, with highly specialized, state-of-the-art computing equipment, are available to the
MSE
and
MSIT-SE
students for their use in meeting individual course requirements.
The computing facilities available to each student reflect the desire of Carnegie Mellon University and the School of Computer Science to provide a support environment equal to the intellectual atmosphere of the university. Each full-time
MSE
and
MSIT-SE
student is provided a dedicated workstation with full access to the information resources of the Internet, the university's innovative distributed file systems, and an extensive library of software development tools. Computer software is constantly reviewed in an effort to provide updated academic, research, and industrial teaching and learning support. Students share Intel PC’s as they work together on the Master of Software Engineering Development Studio and Information Technology Practicum Project, developing presentation graphics and completing project management activities. The extensive resources available through the School of Computer Science provide a rich font from which to draw should specialized hard or software be required to fill particular project demands.
