About MSIT-SEM

The MSIT-SEM degree program is a collaborative effort among Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School of Public Policy and Management, School of Computer Science, and Software Engineering Institute. Ranked as one of the top 25 universities in the United States, Carnegie Mellon offers state-of-the-art training in business, computer science, and software engineering.

The right training for today’s challenges
It is a complex and changing world for the government, non-profit, and commercial sectors. The MSIT-SEM prepares professionals to manage within today’s world, where technology is vital and businesses depend on one another.
Managers must be prepared to work in organizations that take on new technologies as they become available—where software and systems are fully integrated, and projects are complex and have aggressive cost and schedule constraints. They must make decisions about outsourcing, taking care to base their decisions on empirical data. They are responsible for contract oversight, project management, risk management, compliance with governmental regulations, privacy, and security. The MSIT-SEM provides a toolkit for meeting today’s challenges and preparing for those of tomorrow.

Skills for the complete professional
By coupling the professional courses of the SEI with elements of the graduate programs from the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science and Heinz School, the MSIT-SEM prepares working professionals to apply SEI technologies and practices in managing organizations. With areas of focus in technology, business, and management, the MSIT-SEM degree exposes students to the foundational and advanced concepts that will enable them to make the right business decisions for their organizations.  Ideal for working IT managers, the MSIT-SEM degree program has a curriculum delivered mostly through distance learning, allowing staff members to earn a degree while continuing to work.

Flexible Training Options for Excellent Solutions

The MSIT-SEM program offers flexible training options that make it easy for students to work while earning their degrees. While students make a few visits to our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania campus, most training is available through distance learning—the best solution for professionals who insist on world-class quality, top colleagues, and an uninterrupted career.
